Silence is Golden!

I hope all have been reaping a rich harvest of gold during the past 50 days or so!! but now it is time to break that silence and provide assurance that I'm in the land of the living!

Many things have happened during my "time off" so I'll name a few:

Fairwood hosted another Women's Retreat in which I actually participated for the first time in a few years.

The Bible School took their class trip to the exciting state of RI and spent a few days roaming about and having fun.

We purchased a "new" mini-van, described by the modified words of a song, "I want to be like Danny, when I grow up!" because it is exactly like Dan and Ruth's Town and Country Chrysler except with fewer scratches, less miles and no TV.

The Bible School year hurtled to a grand close, culminating in Clyde's graduation--the sole graduate of the Class of 2007, as was CKS from the Class of 2002. Which makes you wonder what would happen to the school if this particular family withdrew. Anyway, student-wise it will get a chance to proceed for two glorious years with no NRS's present.

Re-decorating on the first level of the Main House is on-going. The gorgeous picture that was over the media table in the front hall is GONE! It has been replaced by a mirror, hung in the same frame. And the frame has been professionally and expertly renovated by none other M. Adams!! Hooray! It is now back in place over the media table. Come see it. You'll like it. On a side note, the unsightly stack of newspapers that for years adorned the desk in the front hall, have re-located themselves to the mag/music rack in the library! Where else do you usually find newspapers at a school??

A window treatment plan for the front hall stairs landing is in progress. The rod is up, and a sample "curtain" is there. We just have to find the right pattern/print/color now.

The back hall, laundry, store room and porch floors are all torn up and being prepared for new tile, soon to be laid.

The blue rose stencils on the kitchen now have cranberry colored rosehips adorning their beauty. (Also, compliments of M. Adams) If you think long and hard, you may be able to come up with a close guess as to the color of the tile being installed in the back hall.

And, plans to put "Pergo" flooring in the Library hall are underway. Soooo, great things happening. Quite a few others that I've not mentioned. . .

Also, two of the girls and I attacked the "blanket room" in the women's dorm attic and threw away umpteen ragged, pilly blankets!! Whooohooo! I felt a little guilty inside as I contemplated with what we will cover all those orphan refugees that may be flooding to us one of these days in the post Y2K era! But never fear, folks, there are still a good many left along with many ancient quilts hidden behind the bathroom wall in that same attic. One of these days I will attack the cardboard box the size of an elephant which is filled with flat, ugly, drool-adorned pillows! If any of you would like me to save you one for your personal archives, let me know and I'll try to accommodate you!

On another note, Kendra graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA with her MBA last Saturday and all of her family except CDS were able to attend. I've never been to that large a grad. I don't think--even Wellesley's and I found it to be pretty interesting. Of course, the fact that its president, Jerry Falwell, had just passed away, that it is unabashedly a Christian College and Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker all contributed to its uniqueness. A good time was had by all and we topped it off by all 9 of her guests sharing a meal at the Golden Corral.

This is getting way too long, but remember all the gold you've just saved up from my long silence. Last but not least, I am now 59! Thanks to all who sent cards, greetings on facebook, e-mails or e-cards. And if you didn't that's okay. I accept belated cards!
