Black or White??

Yes indeed, the saga continues. Some of you may have read a post on one of my family member's blogs telling about how my dear mother is convinced that Neil is black. The other day we had a go round on this and for at least 10 minutes straight, Mama was able to remember that Neil is white. She told me that she was so glad she got straightened out on that.

But today she asked me if I thought Neil would be allowed to visit at Fairview? Immediately perceiving what must be going through her dear head, I answered, "Of course! Why not?" "Well," she replied, "I just didn't know if they would allow black people up here! "

And then she asked if a black and white person marry, would their children look like they're black? I said, "Yes!" She then wanted to know which Neil I was married to? Um, I told her that there is only one, that I'd been married to him for going on 33 years and that he is white!! No matter, she will no doubt ask me about it again tomorrow. She asks if Neil is accepted, is well-liked, gets along okay with people, etc. etc. etc. etc. and I now know that each time she asks it's because she is wondering what people are thinking because he is black! Most of the time it is pretty funny, but when you read this, I wouldn't mind a flare prayer for me and for my Mom, because after all, she is my Mother and it is not easy dealing with the fact that she has lost her mind. The dementia is progressing steadily.

Hey! You're here. Welcome to bloggerdom. It was funny a while back when my mom started to read Craig's post about your mom thinking Neil was black out loud to my dad. They got a kick out of that one.

That is pretty funny, although I could understand how you could feel some frustration.

Glad to see you've joined Blogland! I'll look forward to reading your posts.
