What a wondrous thing it is to do nothing, or at least nothing that you don't want to do! We came to Strasburg, VA on Monday to my sister and brother-in-laws's empty home in order to get a little break from the rigors and stresses of life. While here, I've slept, read, exercised, eaten, played pingpong, tossed the frisbee, shopped, stamped by the hour, watched some TV (the craziest, stupidest modern Beverly Hillbillies show you ever did see), visited with relatives and had dinner with some, gone to breakfast with Kayla and Golden Corral with Neil, Clyde and Kayla, gone to Washington DC, and enjoyed a dinner theatre production in which Kiersten Jacobson performed.
We didn't try to "do" much of Washington at all, having been there numerous times before. But it was an exquisite spring day and the cherry blossoms seemed to be in full bloom, so the experience was most delightful. While waiting for our picture taking crazed children as they snapped numerous photos, I enjoyed people watching. I observed people clad in shorts and t-shirts, wind pants and sweatshirts, full topcoats, business suits, you name it, on and on and on. I was fascinated. What a motley mix of sightseers and people on their way either to or from work. Humanity is so diverse (in the right sense of the word) and God loves us all.
The dinner theatre last night was quite the experience! We were the Jacobson's guests, there to support them and Kiersten and have ourselves a right jolly time. I wish I knew the name of the play. Ahead of time, Jim commented that it seems as if high school plays now a days don't have a great deal of plot or meaning and this play was no exception. The plot centered around books that were mysteriously missing from students' lockers and ending up on the stage. A few guys and girls decided to sleep in the gym all night to scope out the situation and catch the "locker stalker," thus putting themselves in a great position to publish a story about it. From there, the plot branched in various directions--from ghost stories to nightmares, etc. etc. There was much screaming and dashing about, cutting off of heads, etc. etc. You kind of get the picture. But Kiersten did a superb job in playing her part as one of the girls staying in the gym overnight, and we had a fun time with the Jacobsons. James (12) and Joshua (9) had the greatest time afterwards chasing Clyde around the gym and playing tag.
This morning I slept in deliciously long and then enjoyed a Krispy Kreme raspberry filled glazed doughnut! Yum. There's no Krispy Kreme store where they make them very near, but there's a gas station right up the road where they get fresh ones in each morning and that's where I picked some up yesterday. I couldn't help but remember that one person described Krispy Kreme doughnuts as being something like squishy marshmallows. . .! But they're the best marshmallows I've ever tasted!!

ah, yes, and I'll beat you in ping-pong yet!
The play really was unusual--half of it consisted of the nightmares. From man hungry potatoes, to Mad Dog CEREAL killer, to crazy teacher stapling kids to a desk for being late or burning them up to illustrate the Chicago Fires, it was one interesting tale!
