There Really is a Floor in the Attic of the Women's Dorm!!!
Oh me oh my. Today was attic cleaning for Toria and me and two very lucky Bible School guys! Except that I forgot that I'd committed to cleaning the attic today and was well on my way towards Sam's Club to do some recital reception shopping when I was brought up short by a call on my cell phone. "Um, are you remembering that we said we'd clean the women's dorm attic today?" Um, no I forgot to write it down and um I'm trying to do amillion different things and um I'll come home instead of going to Sam's Club. Cell phones can be a blessing and a curse!
So up into the hot, dusty attic I climbed. Okay for all of you who have ever lived at Fairwood, we threw out some of your most prized treasures today! I'm warning you. If you read this and recognize something as one of your favorite possessions, holler quickly and you may be able to have it recovered. Out went a certain elderly person's "stuff" which had been cleared for disposal be said person's relatives! The first portion of floor began to appear. Out went a corner desk, all disassembled and in pieces on the floor. Out went a big old box of football cards, greedily snatched by lucky Bible School guys. We eyed a beautiful new crockpot, wondering which recently married couple happened to leave that behind as they moved? Anybody know who left a huge kite kicking about up there?? An ivy teapot, old candles, books, pieces of chairs, wallpaper, headboards, bed frames, decrepit old arks of bureaus that look like they were on the ark, heaps upon heaps of mattresses, and on and on and on and on--all these things were either thrown out the window with a mighty holler of warning, or carted down the stairs and outside by our faithful Bible School men. I can hardly believe all the stuff we threw out and there's lots more to go tomorrow. What fun! When we get done we ought to have a good old romp stomping barn dance, or rather attic dance up there!!!!
We did not throw out a big old wooden fireplace mantle or some such thing that might have been on the ark, too. I was kind of afraid to touch it for fear dead saints might rise up and curse me. Even a living one right near by might decide to behead me if I dumped it! so I didn't. Anyway, in a few days you all might be able to move your earthly possessions into the Fairwood attic because there will be so much space, but if you try to, you'll have to get past my revolving sword at the foot of the attic stairs so beware!!! Just kidding. I had a lot of fun working up there but my old bones are aching tonight. . .

I am impressed. You should have taken "before" and "after" pictures. That is a job that had needed to be done for a long time! Blessings on you for tackling it!

Wow, I'm not sure I'd have undertaken that job :-)

What are some other 'treasures' you unearthed? I'm intrigued...

Hilarious!
Maybe the crockpot belonged to someone who got married during Bible School...
I remember when I had the task of cleaning out a little up there.
Uggh, must have been exhausting!
