I Hate Being Stupid!!!

Me oh my how I do hate being stupid. It seems that I'm forever flying about at too great a rate of speed with just a little more to do than I can fit into the allotted time. Such was the case today as I ran into Keene with Kayla to check out some Target clearance sales before dropping her at the dentist's office and heading over to Care Net for 3 hours of volunteer coverage. This was after my usual Wednesday morning routine at Fairview with Mom, plus doing our laundry, getting dinner in the crockpot, etc. etc. You get the picture.

I was driving along one of Keene's beautiful streets, not minding my own business, but distractedly thinking about getting Kayla to the dentist on time and back to my office to relieve the girl before me, when bump, crunch, I ran into the curb and over it. I gingerly kept going waiting for my tire to quickly deflate and hoping I could make it to drop off Kayla before it did. Kayla made some light hearted comment about, I can't even remember what she said, but I ungraciously told her that when something like this happens it is sometimes better to say nothing than to try to lighten the atmosphere with some off the cuff comment. (See, I'm not only stupid but mean!)

After dropping her off and telling the receptionist that if the dentist really, really thought she needed x-rays it was okay, but I would really rather she didn't have to, I returned to little old Suby (our Subaru) to assess the damage. No deflated tire met my gaze, but a bent rim and kind of slightly bent hub cap. A man was sitting in his car right next to mine and I told him to look at what I just did! He kindly climbed out and checked out the damage, removing the hubcap for me and telling me that "it happens all the time," and "we all do it." Yeah, right. Maybe we all do, but I'd never done it before and I was still pretty upset with myself. I think he pulled into my parking spot when I left to avail himself of the free hour left on my parking meter. At least that was one good deed for the day for me even if I never put the money in the meter in the first place! I left it for the kind man who tried to lift me from the doldrums of my stupidity.
