New Things Mama Learned Today!
That I am married to Neil
That my last name is Sandford
That we have 5 children
That my in laws' names are Kenath and Eileen
That she was at my wedding
That she has seen Neil many times before
After going over all these things with me a number of times, she rejoiced at all the new things she had learned today! When I reminded her that Neil is not black, she informed me that she doesn't think that anymore. (Which means she didn't think it at that moment}.
I also learned something new about my Mom a couple of days ago. She asked Kayla how tall she is and when Kayla replied 5'6", she stated that she was 6'3", or at least she used to be! At that point I got to laughing so hard I had to hide behind my newspaper or Sudoku book as Kayla said, "yes, that's about how tall my brothers are!" or some such. . . . Humor continues to save my day.
On a more serious note, have you ever thought about losing your mind??? Guess what? It's a pretty real and dreary prospect! But the other night as my mother was having a particularly upsetting time trying to distinguish between her mixed up thoughts and reality, I was super encouraged when she enthusiastically agreed with me that in spite of the fact that her 99 year old brain is playing tricks on her, Jesus has promised to never leave her nor forsake her and that is something solid she can bank on! Praise God!

So THAT'S where we got our height from! And all these years we've been telling people it's the Morrison genes. Now we can amend it and say, "Well, my grandmother was six-three!"

I wonder if perhaps the Lady I've heard referred to as "Kansas" many, many times over the years might actually be significantly taller than 6'3"---she certainly will always stand tall in my esteem...

I enjoy reading your accounts. I remember these types of things happening with both my grandmas, although I know it's got to be a lot harder with your own mother. Still, there are some things you just can't help laughing at and I'm glad you can write about them cause I'm sure it's not easy overall. I remember Grandma S. trying to get back inside the nursing home, from the courtyard outside, via a window until I directed her to a door. She just couldn't figure out how to open it!
